the cover series, 2023-24
I started my textile-art studio practice in 2023.
I chose to learn about colour and composition from the best: Sophie Tauber-Arp, Agnes Martin, On Kawara, Bridget Riley, Anni Albers, Josef Albers, my favourite artists. I love Abstract Modernism, but I’m not a painter.
So I re-imagined their art in textiles and other untraditional media: sticky-back vinyl, decals, masking tape, embroidery thread, mohair, silk, recycled fabrics, glitter. The results include: a silk-pleated Riley, a quilted Albers, a stitched Martin, an embroidered Lucio Fontana. Or Mark Rothko tapestried in mohair, Mondrian sliced in sticky-back vinyl.
